We’re only as good as our people. So, finding the best people is everything to us. We serve millions, but we choose our people one at a time…
What are we looking for?
We are looking for an individual to join a team who have a passion for clinical safety and who want to make a difference. The mission is to ensure that Babylon’s Clinical Safety Management System (CSMS) is followed and adhered to in our recognised portfolio of products along with promoting our strong safety culture. Reporting to the Lead Clinical Safety Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the clinical safety position of Babylon’s products and services, through the production of hazard assessments and safety cases. You will work closely with other areas of the business to manage any emergent safety incidents, ensuring that immediate safety risk is controlled, and the root causes are eliminated.
This role would ideally suit a candidate with software safety engineering experience in a safety-critical industry – training on clinical safety will be given so previous experience in this specific area is not essential. The role is based out of the Babylon London office and salary is dependent on experience.
This role is varied and challenging. You will develop your knowledge of hazard identification and risk control along with software design and test philosophies. You will need to be capable of working effectively on your own or as part of a team and must be willing to travel onsite as required.
You should have demonstrable experience of supporting or undertaking safety assurance of systems, ideally healthcare IT systems, including producing deliverables to support safety cases.
You should have experience of participating in safety meetings and be able to escalate and resolve incidents.
You should have experience of following a safety incident management process and understand the associated activities.
You should be an effective self-starter able to work on your own initiative to tight deadlines where there are often conflicting requirements and priorities.
You will need to work closely with other technical colleagues and project managers so must be able to establish effective relationships.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline
Safety engineering or risk assessment experience in a safety-critical industry
Knowledge of software development and assurance
UK healthcare IT experience
Knowledge of national and international safety standards, ideally DCB 0129 / DCB 0160
An excellent standard of written and spoken English
Who fits the role?
You need to have great curiosity – be inquisitive and challenge the status quo.
We are looking for a confident critical-thinker that can jump into many different problems, markets and situations and come up with tactical recommendations.
You need to think logically and creatively to find different solutions.
We need someone who can work with people from around the world, taking the time to understand their local nuances and challenges, without getting bogged down in why something might not work or may not be working.
We need someone who is invigorated by delivering impact – and seeing the tangible effects.
You need to want to make change now – this is less about creating an incredible strategy that will be implemented over the next 5 years, and more about processes that can change the business in the next 6 months.
There’s a lot to do, so we need someone who can prioritise and make decisions intelligently using data to direct them.
What’s nice to have
Knowledge of structured testing processes, defect management and associated documentation.
Awareness and understanding of international medical device standards, ideally including ISO 14971 and ISO13485
Awareness and understanding of information governance and data privacy, including related international standards such as GDPR, HIPAA and PIPEDA
Understanding of agile software development methodologies
Experience of working with issue tracking systems, e.g. Jira
Experience of working with version control systems, e.g. git
Experience working under and contributing to a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC)
