We are looking for an individual to join a team who have a passion for clinical safety and who want to make a difference. The mission is to ensure that Babylon’s Clinical Safety Management System (CSMS) is followed and adhered to in our recognized portfolio of products and ensure that all identified outputs are delivered to a high quality and promote a safety culture. You will work under the direction of the Babylon CSO and assist CRMs (Clinical Risk Mangers) with technical aspects in relation to the product suite.
You should have demonstrable experience of supporting or undertaking independent safety assurance or audit of software-based systems, ideally health IT systems. You should have experience of participating in safety meetings and be able to escalate and resolve incidents.
You should have knowledge of structured testing processes, defect management and associated documentation.
You should have experience of following a safety incident management process and understand the associated activities.
You should be an effective self-starter able to work on your own initiative to tight deadlines where there are often conflicting requirements.
You should have experience of acting as a key point of contact with external organisations; ideally in the context of supporting an assurance process.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Qualified to degree level or equivalent higher education qualification or experience.
Understanding of national and international safety standards, ideally DCB 0129 and DCB 0160.
Ability to identify hazards, undertake risk assessment and evaluate and assure risk control mechanisms.
Aptitude to undertake root cause analysis to diagnose problems and to identify and evaluate corrective actions.
Ability to constructively review documentation associated with the development and deployment of large scale systems and provide constructive written feedback
Ability to assist and help with reviewing of technical hazards
Experience in authoring Technical Safety Cases
An excellent standard of written English
Providing safety engineering expertise to various Babylon’s suite of products, you will be responsible for assuring the safety characteristics of health IT systems both during manufacture and in deployment and use.
Act as a subject matter expert in safety engineering providing expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders including regulators, system manufacturers and health organisations.
Working with the Clinical Safety Officer you will also provide assistance to the CRMs
You will need to work closely with other technical colleagues and project managers so must be able to establish effective relationships.
You will work with the CSO and other members of the clinical safety team and be responsible for managing safety incidents, ensuring that immediate safety risk is controlled, and the root causes are eliminated.
This role is varied and challenging. It will require good working knowledge of hazard identification, risk control and software design and test philosophies.
You will be capable of work effectively on your own or as part of a team and must be willing to travel to onsite if required
What’s nice to have
Awareness and understanding of international medical device standards, ideally including ISO 14971 and ISO13485
Awareness and understanding of information governance and data privacy, including related international standards such as GDPR, HIPAA and PIPEDA
Understanding of agile software development methodologies
Experience of working with issue tracking systems, e.g. Jira
Experience of working with version control systems, e.g. git
Experience working under and contributing to a secure software development lifecycle (SSDLC)
A testing qualification would be desirable
