We are a team on a mission, to put accessible and affordable healthcare in the hands of every person on earth. Our mission is bold and ambitious, and it’s one that’s shared by our team who shares our values, to dream big, build fast and be brilliant.
To achieve this, we’ve brought together one of the largest teams of scientists, clinicians, mathematicians and engineers to focus on combining the ever-growing computing power of machines, with the best medical expertise of humans, to create a comprehensive, immediate and personalized health service and make it universally available.
babylon was included in WIRED’s 2016 Top 100 Hottest Startups in Europe and CB Insights 2017 Global ‘AI 100’ list. Fortune Magazine included babylon in their 2017 list of ’50 Companies Leading the AI Revolution’, the only listed company using AI in healthcare delivery.
At babylon our people aren’t just part of a team, they’re part of something bigger. We’re a vibrant community of creative thinkers and doers, forging the way for a new generation of healthcare.
We’re only as good as our people. So, finding the best people is everything to us. We serve millions, but we choose our people one at a time…
We are looking for an experienced epidemiologist with a special interest in digital health to join the growing epidemiology team.
At Babylon, we work closely with multidisciplinary health and medical experts as part of the artificial intelligence team, and our main challenge is changing the current paradigm of health.
Epidemiologists are expected to provide the best methodological approaches to the daily research questions, which demands a deep knowledge on predictive and preventive medicine concepts as well as relevant patient outcomes research experience.
We have a real-world approach to health, and we believe that technology is fundamental to achieve our mission.
Epidemiologists at Babylon are collaborating with doctors and research scientists in order to build products which will provide the most accurate, reliable and personalised healthcare to everyone
What we expect from you?
An advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in epidemiology or public health (with a focus and previous experience in epidemiological methods)
Relevant (academic or industry) experience in epidemiological and statistical methods and concepts with a special focus on observational research (e.g. sampling, representativeness, design, causality, bias, statistical modelling, data analysis, etc.)
Experience with performing systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses (e.g. search engines, search strings, quality of the studies, data extraction, etc.)
Familiarity with global public health concepts and needs (e.g. African and Asian countries)
Relevant peer-review publications in indexed journals are highly valued
What you will be responsible for?
Deep understanding of the in-house predictive models
Definition of the population-based causal frameworks for a wide set of diseases
Intensive data search and data collection using medicine-related search engines
Deal with missing/incomplete data using different modelling approaches
Provide the evidence base for in-house predictive models with the most reliable and accurate data
Analysis of large databases (e.g. THIN) in collaboration with data scientists to quantify the prevalence and incidence of risk factors and diseases as well as to establish the causal associations between risk factors and diseases
Closely collaborate with the team of doctors in relation to disease-related symptoms, disease-disease links and disease management/treatment
Extension of the current in-house predictive models to other regions of the globe (e.g. Africa, Asia, etc.) by adapting definitions, thresholds and causal frameworks to the local populations
Actively participate in regular meetings with doctors and data scientists to ensure that the best data and the most accurate models are updated and in place
