As a Cloud Operations Engineer you will join the team which is responsible for the Infrastructure that powers babylon. Using cutting-edge technology and tools such as AWS, OpenStack, Kubernetes and Terraform you and your team will manage and monitor existing deployments and build new infrastructure as we move into new markets. You will be the first-line of defence for babylon and will respond to availability and security incidents and manage them through to resolution. The team will be available 24x7x365.
This role would suit an experienced Linux Systems Engineer with experience of both Cloud technologies and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform. Ensuring that our infrastructure is rock-solid, well-maintained and highly-secure, this role will touch everything from bare metal up to Kubernetes and from file-based storage to large NoSQL datastores.
4+ years experience of Linux system engineering
Expert knowledge of Linux including security, hardening and performance tuning
Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python
Experience of Public Cloud infrastructure (ideally AWS)
Experience with Linux Containers using Docker or LXC
Experience of Kubernetes would be an advantage
Good understanding of network fundamentals such as firewalling, subnetting, routing and load-balancing
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Cloud Formation
Exposure to Configuration Management tools such as Ansible and Chef
Must be able to identify problems before they happen, dig deep for root causes, and implement solutions that prevent future occurrences
A natural team player who enjoys working multiple development collaboratively with colleagues
Focused on delivery with a passion for quality and innovation
Will be required to join an on-call rota and work outside of the traditional 9-5 office hours as required
Monitoring the babylon infrastructure and responding to incidents 24x7x365
Ensuring our environments are fully-patched, highly-secure and available
Developing our automated tools to build and manage our global, Kubernetes-based infrastructure
Build new environments as and when required
Manage deployments of our babylon technology platform
